What Is An Apicoectomy?

An apicoectomy is also known as a root end resection. It involves removing the apex of the tooth. After infection is removed, a filling is used to seal the end of the root canal and the area is stitched closed. This routine microsurgery is performed quickly and has minimal recovery time.

As mentioned above, an apicoectomy is performed if the root canal infection has spread to the root tip, or apex.

Dental implants require a surgical procedure that fuses bone to a dental prosthesis. This procedure involves drilling and has a longer recovery time than other procedures.
