Dental Sedation Specialists In Utah

Dental Sedation is the process of being put to sleep for dental treatment. There are several different types of sedation offered at Greater Endodontics. We are the leading dental sedation specialists in Utah, and any sedation that is required will be discussed before your procedure.

The type of dental sedation required depends on the procedure needed. Many forms of dental emergency require a root canal. A root canal allows our endodontic professionals to save the affected tooth by removing the pulp and cleaning, filling and sealing the canals. The tooth is restored using a crown or other dental restoration technique.

The level of sedation you need will depend on the severity of the dental issue and your anxiety level surrounding dental procedures. Many patients who do not have fears surrounding dental work prefer to use IV sedation because it is fast, painless and extremely effective. However, we differ from other endodontic and sedation specialists because we offer solutions to patients who avoid dental procedures due to anxiety. Our other methods of dental sedation are designed to keep you conscious and able to respond, so you can feel comfortable from the moment you step into our office. More advanced dental procedures may require your preferred sedation method to be paired with anesthesia. Local anesthesia may be all that a patient requires to feel the numbing effects and remain calm throughout the appointment, but we offer multiple options for patients that would like or require a sedative.

Greater Endodontics Sedation Options

Anxiolytics

Nearly 20% of Americans avoid going to the dentist regularly due to anxiety. Anxiolytics dentistry is provided for anxious patients to remain conscious and be able to respond during a procedure. This form of light sedation takes the edge off anxiety-inducing dental surgeries by giving patients who fear dental work—a common fear—control over the level of sedation. A anti-anxiety drug will be prescribed to you if you choose to use anxiolytic dental sedation methods. This will allow you to be calm during the procedure. Since it is a lighter sedation, this method is not possible for more severe procedures that require invasive surgery. You should discuss your options with our dental sedation specialists before surgery.

Nitrous Oxide

Nitrous Oxide is a form of sedative used to put the put the patient into a mild form of relaxation using a mask to inhale nitrous oxide (or laughing gas). It is a painless gas that will be carefully monitored by professional dentists to ensure proper administration and dosage. Within only a few minutes of the procedure you should be able to sit up and even drive home from your appointment. This easy method of sedation is great for minimally invasive procedures and can be paired with anesthesia for more severe procedures.

Oral Conscious Sedation

Oral conscious sedation allows the patient to be conscious throughout their endodontic procedure. Patients swallow a sedative pill that allows them to remain awake for the procedure. You will be able to respond to directives but have an elevated sense of calm by using this method of sedation. Many patients who use oral conscious sedation do not remember anything about the procedure. This method of sedation requires someone to drive you to and from your appointment and stay with you for six hours following the appointment.

IV Sedation

IV or intravenous sedation is a quick and effective form of sedation involving putting a needle into a patient’s vein. This is a very-fast acting method that will be painless and cause you to become drowsy. A second practitioner who specializes in sedation is there to ensure everything runs smoothly. IV sedation requires someone to bring you to your appointment, drive you home, and remain with you for six hours.

Worry-Free Care

At Greater Endodontics, our professional doctors have been recognized as among the best in the country. We are lucky to serve Utah patients with quality, affordable care twenty-four hours a day and seven days a week. Our goal with any dental procedure is that you relax and feel comfortable with our capable professionals. With a variety of methods to help you through a dental procedure, our team is confident that you will overcome your fears about dental work.

When possible, we love to recommend our alternative to root canals, the GentleWave procedure. This procedure is designed with you in mind, so if you are hesitating to book an appointment, ask us about this option today! It is a one-time procedure with permanent effects. GentleWave cleans your teeth where traditional root canals can’t, and it also decreases the healing process.

The advanced system uses fluid vortex to clean the root canal system, clearing debris and tissue that can cause infection. The GentleWave system even cleans bacteria on a microscopic level, so you can be confident that your smile will be restored.

Dental Sedation in Utah Aftercare

Regardless of what form of sedation you use, it’s important to remember the proper aftercare. Do not operate a vehicle, any heavy machinery, or make important decisions for 24 hours after a procedure. While you might feel great after a light sedative, any form of sedation can cause drowsiness and delayed reaction times that make driving and heavy lifting dangerous.

Your procedure may or may not involve sutures or stitches. We recommend a soft diet while your mouth is healing, as soreness and discomfort are a part of the healing process. Drink plenty of fluids to ensure a smooth healing process.

No matter what method of dental sedation you use, Greater Endodontics is pleased to offer you options. From the moment you walk in the door, our endodontics specialists ensure that you have a pleasant and comfortable experience. We go above and beyond for our patients by offering cutting-edge technology and alternatives to the standard endodontic procedures. We hope that you schedule a consultation with us for the best dental care of your life! It is our commitment to care and empathy for patients that distinguishes Greater Endodontics as the leading endodontic professionals in Utah.

Dr Facer is brilliant, thorough, and explains in detail what is to be expected. I was nervous going in for my root canal. When he finished, I was amazed at how much better this was than I had experienced years ago with a different doctor.. I Highly recommend Greater Endodontics & him.

I visited Greater Endodontics for the first time on March 26, 2026. Dr. Facer was my Endodontist. My overall experience was excellent. Dr. Facer is a talented professional and was courteous and professional. All of the staff, from the front office to the dental assistant were all great. Their pricing is very competitive and they are an "in-network" provider with my dental insurance. Best of all, the practice has four Endodontists, making it easy to get an appointment. I left my former Dentist and Endodontist because it was too difficult to get a timely appointment. For all my future dental needs, I plan to use Greater Endodontics.

Originally I went to a different endodontist that charged me a ton for an X-ray and then they said they couldn't save my tooth... Decided to go to Greater Endodontics for a second opinion and I'm glad I did. They were so so much more knowledgeable and saved my tooth! The procedure was pain free and recovery was awesome... I recommend Greater Endodontics to anyone that wants the best affordable service!

I had a very painful tooth number 15 a back molar. I couldn’t even drink water luke warm. The team there was amazing honestly I’ve been all over looking for great dentists and endodontists ( I’ve had a lot of work done) and i can say I’ll never go anywhere else again for a root canal. It was quick and the team was super professional but not in a cold way. I was really worried that when the shots wore off i was going to be in a lot of pain…. There is virtually none. NONE! These guys are a diamond in the rough and I’m so glad i found them. Could not recommend them more!
