If you’ve been told you're in need of a root canal treatment, you may be searching for an alternative that is less invasive - and allows you to keep the natural tooth. In that case, the GentleWave Root Canal procedure at Greater Endodontics may be the answer.
The GentleWave procedure is an alternative to the standard root canal that offers a minimally invasive treatment while still removing the bacteria that live throughout your root canal system.
Compared to a traditional root canal, GentleWave offers superior results and a lower chance of patients needing retreatment.
Root canals are designed to eliminate bacteria from the infected root canal and prevent infection of the tooth. During the procedure, the infected or inflamed pulp is removed and the inside of the tooth is cleaned, disinfected, filled, and sealed.
Standard root canal treatment can include complications:
A GentleWave Root Canal is minimally invasive, but the fluids are still able to reach through the entire root canal, even reaching the small, hard-to-reach areas a traditional root canal may not.
Watch this video to learn more about how the GentleWave procedure works and it can effectively clean teeth better than a standard root canal.
A GentleWave procedure uses fluid dynamics and broad spectrum acoustic energy over the standard dental drills. This technology allows for a deeper and more efficient clean, ensuring no part of the infection is missed.
Results are always better with the enhanced technology of GentleWave. Many root canal procedures require follow-up treatment after becoming reinfected. Since GentleWave is able to reach where traditional root canals can’t, it significantly reduces the chances of reinfection and further treatment.
Being a minimally invasive procedure, recovery time is always quicker with a GentleWave Root Canal. This gentle procedure can be completed in just one session and heals quickly.
Even though it is an alternative treatment, GentleWave is priced fairly. Many patients even save money by choosing a GentleWave Root Canal since they don’t require multiple appointments.
Patients have derived the GentleWave procedure as more comfortable than a standard root canal treatment.
Additionally, choosing a GentleWave Root Canal Offers the following benefits:
Traditional root canals are invasive, painful, and often require multiple treatments. With a GentleWave procedure, many of the negative side effects of a root canal can be avoided.

Our Endodontists remain at the forefront of emerging research and technologies to ensure the best care possible to our patients.
The GentleWave Technology was developed with the goal to improve the efficacy and patient experience of root canal treatment. Traditional root canal treatments have depended on files to remove infected teeth and tissue, but the complex anatomy of the root canal system has made it difficult to reach all of the infection.
A GentleWave procedure alleviates this problem by utilizing a powerful vortex of fluids and acoustic energy to reach the most complex parts of the root canal system. By avoiding the use of manual instruments the risk of reinfection is minimized. Undergoing a root canal treatment is being radically redefined thanks to the GentleWave system.
Our expert endodontists are dedicated to patient comfort, accurate diagnosis and lasting results. Look what our patients have to say about us.
Patients who undergo a GentleWave Root Canal are often surprised at how comfortable it is, and how quickly they recover. It’s normal to feel nervous about a root canal, and you may be nervous about embarking on an alternative method.
With the GentleWave procedure, fewer files are required. This helps to preserve the dentin structure of the tooth, allowing it to stay strong and maintain its normal function.
First, an x-ray will be taken. A dentist will use this x-ray to examine the extent of the infection and see the shape and position of the root canals. Finding the canals is critical to ensuring the procedure will reach all of them and prevent reinfection.
Afterward, a local anesthetic will be administered to numb the tooth and surrounding area. A “dental dam,” or small protective sheet, may be placed over the area to keep it clean and free of bacteria-harboring saliva.
Once the area is numb, an opening to the tooth will be prepared. The tooth’s pulp and infected nerve tissue are removed. In a traditional root canal, the dentist or endodontist will use files to scrape the inside of the tooth and root canal system.
This is where a GentleWave Root Canal differs.
The root canal system is cleaned using the GentleWave procedure’s fluids. This flushes out bacteria, infection, and debris. Difficult spots in the system are reached through this method, allowing faster recovery and a low chance of needing further treatment.
After the cleaning, the tooth is filled and sealed. To protect the treated tooth from other bacteria, it is filled with a biocompostable material. Sometimes the tooth also needs to be restored further with a crown, which restores the natural appearance of the tooth.
